Colmar was founded in Monza in 1923 by Mario Colombo. It seems that the name (composed of the first three letters of the surname, followed by the first three letters of the name of its founder) was chosen by a vote made among friends in a pastry shop in Monza. In the first decades the company produces wool felt hats and gaiters, and then dedicated itself to the production of work clothes. In the immediate post-war period, with the recovery and development of sport, the specialization in sportswear began, with particular attention to skiing. The brothers Giancarlo and Angelo, sons of the founder, understand the opportunity to develop this new sector. Working closely with the Italian Winter Sports Federation, Colmar soon gains notoriety as a manufacturer of highly technical and qualified garments. On the occasion of the 1952 Olympics, the company has for the first time been in charge of dressing the Italian ski team and, together with Zeno Colò, realizes the first aerodynamic windbreaker (called the Colò sheath). Over the next four decades, Colmar has dressed the national teams of alpine skiing, Nordic skiing and other disciplines such as bobsleigh and sledging. In the seventies, those of the blue avalanche, Colmar makes several race seals that have made the history of skiing and who have dressed the Italian champions at the Olympics in Sapporo, Innsbruck and the World Championships in St. Moritz. Today Colmar has diversified its production and, in addition to technical clothing, also produces fashionable garments. In 2009 the Colmar Originals line was born. destined to a young audience. On January 9th 2010 Giancarlo Colombo died at the age of 83, followed by two months and a half away from his brother Angelo. In 2011 Colmar signed an agreement with FISW (Federazione Italia Scinautico and Wakeboard), becoming for three years official supplier.
